Friday July 23rd 2010 in Whitehorse

As it was dry, and there was nothing I could do for now, I went walk about sightseeing the downtown area. Obviously Whitehorse has a lot of history, and it is still laid out as low rise, and spread out. The Yukon river is the focal point, and runs through the middle of the downtown area. The city is surrounded by hills and mountains, and snow could be seen on some in the distance.

Camping and the outdoor life at Wal-Mart

As I passed near the dealer, I went in to check on my bike status. Several riders on the road came in, including the 5 from Iowa that I had met a few times. They were still thinking of the Dalton to Prudhoe. Long story short, the charging testing done had shown the battery was shot, the result of the bike charging system not working. The problem is all tests show as OK, but the alternator/regulator are not charging, the bike is basically running off the battery. For how long I have no idea. The battery was new last August, and I regularly trickle charge it, having done so in Bowmanville. The mechanic had been in touch with his support in Calgary, but the real issue remains unknown. The ywill continue to look at it, and I will call mid-day tomorrow to see where we are at. As it stands, I could most likely run the bike being careful not to discharge the battery too much, and get to Haines.
It is real hard seeing all the other riders I have met, continuing on with their journeys, and I am immobile. Having been on the road for so long, I feel out of it all.
